Nick Kyrgios on his “detention”: “I’m just on probation, relax”

Nick Kyrgios has been given a suspended 16-week ban from the ATP Tour following the conclusion of an investigation into his explosive second-round loss at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati last month. The Australian was handed a record fine of 113.000 US dollars after committing eight offences during his match with Karen Khachanov, including verbally abusing umpire Fergus Murphy and spitting towards the official. However, the 24-year-old didn’t take the punishment lying down as he accused the ATP tour of being “pretty corrupt”. Kyrgios has five days to appeal, but he commented about the issue on Instagram. “Guess I’m on my best behaviour for 6 months,” he wrote and added the hashtag #detention. In another post shared on his Instagram Story, he wrote: “Everyone, I can still play, I’m just on probation, relax. I’ll be playing and tennis will still be fun, it’s ok, I just have to keep a lid on my behaviour, that’s all.”
