Ole Gunnar Solskjaer responds to Paul Scholes criticism of David de Gea

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists David de Gea retains his full backing after the Manchester United goalkeeper was singled out for criticism following Tuesday’s Champions League defeat against RB Leipzig. De Gea was badly at fault for what turned out to be the decisive goal against Leipzig in a 3-2 defeat which saw United suffer the humiliation of being relegated to the Europa League. United legend Paul Scholes was particularly critical of De Gea and accused the 30-year-old of ‘bottling it’ after he turned his back on Justin Kluivert and allowed the Netherlands international to clip the ball over him. "I think David is a top goalkeeper, of course I do,’ said Solskjaer when he was alerted to Scholes’ comments during his pre-match press conference. "Rightly so, he’s on the lists of being the best goalkeeper in Europe. For me, he’s handled criticism before, he’s handled setbacks before. He’s a man that we really rely on, and hopefully he’s not affected by criticism, and I don’t think he will be. Every goal that a keeper concedes you’d be disappointed with."
