Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told what to expect from Ethan Laird and Jesse Lingard this season.
Laird, 18, was named to be in United senior squad for the first time for tonight's Europa League clash against Partizan Belgrade, previously impressing while playing for Under-23s.
As defenders Diogo Dalot, Axel Tuanzebe, Luke Shaw and Eric Bailly will miss the game because of their injuries, the youngster will have the chance to play in the full-back position along with his academy fellow Brandon Williams.
Speaking about Laird, Solskjaer told during the interview with
United's official website:
"He's been injured a little while and now is on his way back. He's a full-back in the mould that we want: he's physical, he's quick, he's strong, technical as well driving forward with it. So we thought it was the time for him now to get this experience and we believe he can kick on in his career."
Jesse Lingard is also returning from his injury for today's clash. The United boss assured this time the 26-year-old will return to action as a different player.
"Fantastic to have him back fit. He's been so lively and bubbly in training and I don't know how much game-time we'll give him, but he looks like he wants to catch up on lost time and it's been fantastic to see him with a big smile. I know Jesse from before and now we expect him - and he expects himself - to kick on now," Solskjaer added.
