Paul Merson has urged Manchester United to sign Harry Kane if they want to reach the same level as rival Manchester City.
The Tottenham star has been developed as one of the most productive strikers in the world, being just three goals away from becoming Spurs' all-time goal scorer and recently equaling Wayne Rooney making him the joint-highest goalscorer for England.
Following Cristiano Ronaldo's contract termination, the Red Devils are in search of a high-quality attacker and the pundit thinks Kane is the option United need to catch up with Premier League rivals.
Speaking to Daily Star, Merson believes there is no one at the same level as the 29-year-old in the market and Erik ten Hag should take advantage o it.
“In an age where clubs spend money for fun and world-class centre-forwards are a rarity, I would find it crazy if Manchester United did not break the bank for Harry Kane.
“You can look all around the world, rack your brains and round up every scout within your network and the answer is right there in front of you. There is nobody that comes close to Kane that is currently available.
“If United ever want to catch Manchester City, they’ve got to go and get Kane. Everybody wants a striker and is searching far and wide but the best centre-forward is staring everybody in the face.
