Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has reacted to the Champions League 1/8 finals draw results against Real Madrid.
The defending Premier League champions are standing with 14 points behind Liverpool in the league table. They face a true challenge to win in the Champions League game against the rivals, that knocked them out in the semi-finals in 2016.
Guardiola's expectations concerning the club's success in recent competitions have fallen down. However, the Citizens' boss admits they need to face the best and most experienced teams in order to improve.
He said:
"Of course it’s positive we are in the best 16 teams in Europe, that’s good news. People think it’s not enough. Every team wants to go through and do better. If you want to do well in this competition you have to face these types of team sooner or later. It's an incredible test for us but we will try to prepare as well as we can to arrive as good as possible. We will see. It is what it is and we want to make a step as a team so we have to face them sooner or later. They have more experience in this competition. For us it’s an incredible experience to face them and we will try to compete with them and I have incredible confidence in my team."
Guardiola revealed he is looking forward to meeting his fellow manager Zinedine Zidane, who is one of only three men to win three European Cups.
"I dreamed of playing with him as a player at Juventus when I left Barcelona but at the end it didn't happen. I didn’t speak much with him. Three or four times," he said. "But my first impression is that he’s an incredible person to handle to pressure of incredible clubs like Madrid. I admire him and it’s really good this type of person is in football and it will be a pleasure to see him again," he added.
