Referee officials explain VAR decision during Manchester United draw with Liverpool

Yesterday, Manchester United played a 1-1 with Liverpool at the Old Trafford. Marcus Rashford opened the score in the 36th minute and Adam Lallana equalized in the 85th. However, before Rashford went on to score the opener of the game, Divock Origi went down after a contact from Victor Lindelof, but referee Martin Atkinson didn't stop the game. After a VAR check, goal was not disallowed which left Liverpool fans furious. Later, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited explained the incident to Sky Sports: "Firstly, the on-field referee didn’t think it was a foul and VAR checked/decided that it wasn’t a clear and obvious error to not award the foul. "Secondly, VAR isn’t re-refereeing matches - there is contact but VAR was comfortable it wasn’t enough to disallow the goal." After the draw Liverpool continue to lead the league table, while United are 13th with 10 points. via LiverpoolECHO
