Rio Ferdinand identifies Paul Pogba replacement as transfer speculation drags on

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand thinks Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez could be the perfect replacement for Paul Pogba if the French midfielder leaves the club. Pogba has been linked with the move to Real Madrid and his former side Juventus, and it seems his agent Mino Raiola is also eager to seal a deal for his client to leave Old Trafford. Amid the transfer speculation, Ferdinand has shared his thoughts concerning the player and his possible replacement. Speaking on Instagram Live, he said: "I don't want Pogba to go but if he does go I'd take Saul Niguez all day long. Not like-for-like but still a top player. What a player. I've been harping on about Saul Niguez for a few years now. I think he's a major player. Composed, calm, great left foot, lovely conductor, he can score goals, tactically he's very aware. You can see Simeone, he gets his team really well set up and he's in the middle orchestrating and dictating things." Saul joined Atletico Madrid youth team in 2008 from Real Madrid. He became one of the key players of the club, scoring 3 goals in 26 La Liga appearances this term. Recently he has scored in Atletico's 1-0 win in their Champions League last 16 first leg win over Liverpool. Saul's contract expires in 2026, however, it is rumored that he has a £135m release clause.
