Roger Federer says it is not realistic to expect him to still be competing on the ATP tour in 2023.
After a gruelling season, Federer is practising in Dubai as he begins preparations for 2020.
When asked if he will play competitively until 2023, Federer said: "
No, not logically. I just know that until then I can still play tennis at a level that I enjoy making people happy.
"But whether I'm still on the tour then, I don't know. If I ever leave the professional tour, I won't forget tennis.
"When I remember going on a tour with Pete Sampras in 2007, he hit me in Macau. Sampras had stopped there five years ago and I was world number 1.
"At some point your career ends because you can no longer play week after week. But you can still bring a good match every now and then."
The first event on his calendar is an exhibition in Hangzhou, China with Alexander Zverev and the Bryan brothers.
