Sergio Aguero is set to be axed by Argentina for their next match against Nigeria.
The Manchester City striker is one of several players who wanted to sack Sampaoli after their shocking 3-0 defeat to Croatia.
However, Sampaoli has won his battle to remain as manager with Augero facing benching for the next match in St Petersburg.
City's all-time leading goalscorer started the tournament with a bang, scoring a brilliant goal against Iceland, but he was substituted in the humiliation by Croatia.
Augero will be replaced in the team by Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain.
Former Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria and Ever Banega also come in, with Marcos Acuna and Enzo Perez dropping out. Willy Caballero will also be replaced by Franco Armani.
It’s known that several players approached Argentina FA president Claudio Tapia to ask about Sampaoli’s sacking but he backed the manager, so Sampaoli will lead Argentina against Nigeria.
