Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has ruled out a return to Manchester for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The 37-year-old said earlier this week that he would consider a return to Old Trafford, having plundered goals in impressive numbers for LA Galaxy.
“I don’t think that will happen,” said the United boss. “He had a great time with the club and he’s had a fantastic career, but I would not expect that. If he was 28 not 38 in October, that’s a big difference. Zlatan had a great time here, he’s still doing well and it was unfortunate he got his injury here.”
Chris Smalling is flying to Italy this morning to complete a season-long loan move to Roma, while Matteo Darmian is also expected to finalise a Serie A return before Monday evening. But Solskjaer has confirmed Marcos Rojo will remain a United player beyond Monday.
“I can see maybe Matteo,” he said. “There’s been some interest in Italy. Marcos is staying definitely. We’re a squad now that is less in numbers, but still big enough and strong enough to have cover in all positions.”
