Southampton head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl has reacted after Leicester City midfielder James Maddison made a claim on the decision not to award Manchester City a penalty against Saints.
The England international was disappointed not to see referee Jon Moss point to the spot after an onrushing Alex McCarthy appeared to hinder his England teammate Phil Foden with a late challenge as he looked to fire his side ahead at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.
Maddison felt that had he stayed down and appealed for the penalty instead of playing on, Foden would have won his side a penalty.
After the midweek clash, which ended in a 5-2 win for Pep Guardiola’s Blues, Hasenhuttl was made aware of Maddison’s Twitter comments, to which he responded:
“In general, in England, players don’t go down as much and I like this. It is for me more honest - but I haven’t seen the situation again so I can’t say a lot about it.
“I don’t know if this was the right or wrong decision. It didn’t change the result, it would not have been different.”
