The Athletic: Liverpool made contact with Arsenal defender Sokratis

Liverpool have made contact with former Arsenal defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos, who is currently without a club. Sokratis has made just 2 appearances for Mikel Arteta's side during the 2020-2021 season and on January 20 it was confirmed by the club that the defender and Arsenal decided to cancel his contract by mutual consent. According to The Athletic, the Reds, who are currently without Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, made contact with Sokratis but have no plans to buy a centre-back during the January transfer window.
