TOP 10 players who rejected Manchester United since Sir Alex Ferguson retired

Manchester United have spent close to a staggering £1billion on transfers since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club at the end of the 2012-13 Premier League season. Despite splashing out huge transfer fees, United have found themselves slowly slipping out of contention for titles. Moreover, over the past six years, there have been some high-profile names, who have rejected a move to Old Trafford. Ferguson, who managed the club for 27 years, was replaced by David Moyes. Since then, United have been managed by Ryan Giggs as a caretaker, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and the current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Here are top 10 players that have rejected a move to the club and where are they now. Cesc Fabregas Ferguson’s successor David Moyes wanted to sign the Spanish midfielder during his first and only summer transfer window; however, Fabregas rejected the move in order to fight for his place at Barcelona. The 32-year-old now plays for AS Monaco. Toni Kroos Kroos also has been on the wish list of Moyes, when he played for Bayern Munich. However, Kroos changed his mind after Moyes was sacked and instead joined Real Madrid in 2014 and currently plays for the Spanish giants. Gareth Bale Manchester United tried to sign Bale in 2013; however, the Tottenham star joined Real Madrid for more than £86 million from the fee that offered for him United.   Bale currently plays for Real Madrid, but the 30-year-old has been linked with a move to United on several occasions since. Thomas Muller Muller had been on the target list of Jose Mourinho in 2016 and United offered for him £85 million; however, the bid was rejected. Two years earlier, when Louis van Gaal was in charge, United also tried to sign Muller but he had no interest in leaving the Allianz Arena. Now, Müller is said to be growing increasingly unhappy with his role at Allianz Arena. Sergio Ramos Manchester United tried to sign Sergio Ramos in 2015 but the Real Madrid star agreed on a new long-term deal with Los Blancos. It felt like Ramos had deliberately used United in order to get a better contract from Madrid. Pedro Pedro decided to leave Barcelona in 2015 and had two attractive offers from England: one from Chelsea and the other from United. The Spaniard joined Stamford Bridge club and currently plays for the Blues. Sadio Mane Van Gaal wanted to sign the Senegalese from Southampton in 2015.  Speaking about that, Mane said: “Some teams wanted me. Manchester (United), the wrong team wanted me.” The Senegal international joined Liverpool in 2016 and is now regarded as one of the best players in the world. Willian Jose Mourinho wanted to sign Willian at Old Trafford in the summer of 2018 but the Brazilian rejected the move at remained at Chelsea. A months later Mourinho was sacked. N’Golo Kante Mourinho wanted to sign Kante in 2016 but the attempt was unsuccessful. Kante is now considered the best defensive midfielder in world football. He plays for Chelsea but has offers from Juventus and Real Madrid. Antoine Griezmann In 2017, Griezmann was strongly linked with a move to Manchester United. However, Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone convinced him to stay put in the Spanish capital. Griezmann is now playing alongside Lionel Messi, following his €120 million summer move to Barcelona.
