FIFA has approved the extension of player contracts until seasons are able to finish and the movement of transfer windows in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
With football currently suspended due to COVID-19, the sport’s world governing body has been consulting with different stakeholders through a task force chaired by FIFA vice-president Vittorio Montagliani.
It’s clear that if football does resume, the season is likely to extend into August.
The governing body also said ‘it is necessary to adjust the normal regulatory position to the new factual circumstances’ when it comes to transfer windows.

So how the current situation will affect Chelsea?
Chelsea have five players, whose contracts end in June. Brazilian star Willian, France international Olivier Giroud, Spanish star Pedro, goalkeeper Willy Caballero and Marco van Ginkel are set to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.
However, the latest FIFA decision means, they will stay at the club until the end of the season and they also could sign contract extensions.
Giroud, who has been linked with Inter Milan, could even remain at the club for the next season. While Willian could be given the two-year contract extension, which he wants, despite the fact that he recently announced that this season will be the last one for him.

However, the Blues will face another obstacle regarding their players. Chelsea have agreed on a contract with Ajax, to bring Hakim Ziyeach. The player was set to join the club on July 1. But if things stand like this, the Ajax player will get his chance to join the Blues later and it's still unknown when.
Another obstacle for the Blues will be agreements with possible transfer targets.
