Arsenal head coach Unai Emery has revealed why the integration of Bernd Leno and Lucas Torreira to the first team was so slow.
Both of them arrived at the Emirates in the summer and were expected to start the season against Manchester City. However, Leno was benched with Torreira substituted only in the second half.
Speaking about why neither summer signing were thrown in straight away, Emery revealed: "Because you have to respect hierarchies," he said in an interview with
Marca . "If Leno comes as a signing, but Cech is doing well, we have to respect him. Petr was first.
"And the same happened with Guendouzi and Torreira, who arrived later. I kept the first one, which I love, although now I do not play and yes Lucas."
Leno has since made important saves in games against Leicester City, Liverpool and Wolves. Meanwhile Torreira has quickly become a fan favourite at the age of 22.
