"Unfortunate": John Aldridge suggests Liverpool made a mistake with £10m star

John Aldridge has suggested that Liverpool made a mistake in not signing a replacement for Dejan Lovren amid Virgil van Dijk injury. Dutch international will be out of action for a long term, after picking up a serious injury during the 2 - 2 Merseyside Derby draw with Everton. Jurgen Klopp's side have started the 2020/21 campaign with one centre-back, following Lovren's departure to Zenit St Petersburg for £10 million during the summer transfer window. And the club legend Aldridge has shared his thoughts on the case, claiming Liverpool have made a mistake, failing to sign a new defensive option to replace the Croatian professional. He told The Liverpool Echo: “It’s a bit unfortunate now that we let Dejan Lovren go because even though you always felt he had the odd mistake in him, he would have been useful to have as back up but we haven’t and will have to make the best of it.”
