Aleksander Ceferin, the president of Uefa has claimed that a European Super League “will not happen”.
Ceferin and Andrea Agnelli, the chairman of the European Club Association have made their positions clear following a report by Der Spiegel.
“The Super League will not happen,” Ceferin
told BBC Sport. “It is in a way a fiction now or a dream.
The Juventus chairman Agnelli added: “I can confirm we have never seen, never discussed, never been involved in the creation of this document. We are fully engaged with Uefa in shaping the game going forward.”
Both men insist Europe’s leading clubs will remain part of Uefa and they have plans that could redraw the European football landscape from 2024.
A third European competition to run alongside the Champions League and Europa League is set to be confirmed next month.
“We think that European football can go further only if we stay together, unified. If you want to develop football you have to stay together,” Ceferin added.
