Edinson Cavani had told Wayne Rooney that he wanted to join Manchester United during 2014 World Cup while they were swapping shirts after the Uruguay vs England game, claims The Sun.
However, Cavani’s agents were demanding in excess of £300,000-a-week for the striker to move to the club and United couldn’t afford the striker’s salary alongside what would have been a hefty price tag.
It came at a time when United were on a spending spree, with Van Gaal signing the likes of Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera, Angel DI Maria and Radamel Falcao in his opening summer at the club.
Cavani has since completed his move to United and he’s made an impressive start to life at the club, scoring four times in 12 appearances.
