RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner is set to join Chelsea rather than Liverpool. Werner has been offered a five-year deal by the Stamford Bridge club, who have agreed to pay the release clause of £54 million in the Germany international’s contract.
Liverpool may have posted a healthy profit in their latest set of accounts, £42m and a record turnover of £533m but even they are not safe to the damage being caused by the coronavirus crisis. According to Goal, their interest in Werner was genuine, but that cooled significantly in the last month, due to financial problems.
Klopp called Werner to explain why the move would not happen. Klopp insisted the reasoning was financial. According to The Athletic, the message from Anfield is that there will be no major signings in the summer transfer window.
