Liverpool captain has reportedly called England national team manager Gareth Southgate to ensure that he will continue playing for the Three Lions irrespective of his move to Saudi Arabia.
On July 27, Al Ettifaq announced the signing of Henderson on a three-year contrast for £12M. The Reds' captain has spent 12 remarkable years at Anfield Stadium, winning a number of trophies, among which are the Premier League, Champions League and the FA Cup.
As per Sky Sports, the 33-year-old called Southgate to receive some insurance, but the latter was unable to give any guarantees about the future. Yet, despite his move to Saudi Arabia, the midfielder received reassuring news that he will not be immediately disregarded for the national team.
Henderson remains committed to the England national team and has informed Southgate of his intention to continue playing. However, his transfer to Saudi Arabia could impact his chances of representing the Three Lions, given that many of his teammates are still performing at a top level. While his leadership qualities might earn him a spot in the squad, there is a possibility that he could miss out on the EUROS in Germany next summer.
