Wolverhampton injury news ahead of Manchester United opener

Taking the reins from Julen Lopetegui just last week, Gary O'Neil is set to make his managerial debut as Wolves face Manchester United in their season opener.

Despite his limited time with the team, O'Neil conducted his inaugural training session on Thursday. Fortunately, the squad has managed to stay relatively injury-free, with the exception of Matheus Cunha, who is currently nursing a minor ailment.

However, the newly appointed manager expressed optimism about the Brazilian's availability for tonight's match. When asked about the team's injury situation leading up to the clash with United, the coach stated:

"No. Everyone seems okay. Cunha has missed a couple of days on the grass but we are hopeful he will be back out tomorrow with the group. So, at the moment, we are pretty much as we were before I came in."

Wolves injury update ahead of Manchester United clash

Joao Gomes: During the trip to Portugal, Gomes sustained a minor injury and consequently remained an unused substitute in the 1-1 friendly draw against Celtic in Dublin.

However, the player made a comeback in the starting lineup for the home-friendly against Luton. Despite his efforts, the game didn't swing in his team's favor in a thrilling contest. Nevertheless, his standout performance came against Stade Rennais, where he came off the bench during halftime, replacing Joe Hodge.

Gomes not only played a crucial role in the Wanderes' second goal but also displayed excellent form, likely earning himself a spot in the starting lineup for the match against Manchester United.

Mario Lemina: Omitted from the Luton match due to illness, Lemina returned to the starting lineup against Stade Rennais. He caught attention with his well-rounded performance before being substituted in the 73rd minute.

His impressive display makes him a strong contender for a spot in the starting XI against Manchester United.

Sasa Kalajdzic: After nearly a year of absence following an ACL injury on his Wolves debut, the Austrian striker has exceeded expectations over the past week. He commenced in the Luton friendly, showcasing his skills and establishing good synergy with Fabio Silva in the forward line.
