Rio Ferdinand has discussed the potential scenario of Mikel Arteta leaving the Arsenal managerial role for Manchester City.
Following Pep Guardiola's remarkable season with Manchester City winning the Treble, Ferdinand believes Guardiola might exit the club within 18 months. Arteta, who was Guardiola's assistant, has been making a name for himself as Arsenal's boss, but has yet to secure a Premier League title.
Ferdinand's reaction to the possibility of Arteta returning to Manchester City as a manager was one of surprise.
“Wow,” responded Ferdinand when being told Gunners' boss would return at Etihad, via HITC.
Former Manchester United star questioned whether Arsenal fans would accept Arteta leaving if he fails to win anything within the speculated period.
“I think Pep could be gone in 18 months. If he (Arteta) left and went to Man City, in that time, and hadn’t won anything. Would you (speaking to an Arsenal fan) be happy for him to go? Or would you be sitting there ‘Oh my God, Arteta has been taken. He has been nicked’," he added.
