Max Verstappen has spoken out on his suggestion saying that fans 'wouldn't have seen him' if he was driving in a McLaren.
Verstappen finished first in Japan as he started from pole and clinched his fourth in a row win at the race track.
Ahead of the race in Bahrain, Verstappen was asked to clarify his comments about McLaren car.
He said: "You thought it was a joke? It is not a joke."
After the win in Japan, Verstappen is currently one point behind Lando Norris in the drivers standings.
Speaking on the title race, the Red Bull star said: "Honestly, I don't think too much about that. I'm just focused on the performance of the car.
"As soon as we get close to them (McLaren) or are on the same level, I know it will be fine. But we are not there yet, and we have to reach that point first because otherwise, there is no point even talking about a championship."
